At Paws and Claws Cat Rescue, we cherish every life from the moment they enter our doors. We strive to provide the deepest level of care to each feline, allowing them their best chance at a long healthy life.

We rescued Bucky in late 2023. Our shelter partner reported no sign of visible illness. As far as we knew this was a a routine case and Bucky would spend a short time with us before we found his forever home.

Sadly, that never happened. 

 

When Bucky arrived at Paws and Claws he showed alarming symptoms—a dangerously low heart rate and severe jaundice, with his gums, ears, and eyes turning yellow. Despite immediate veterinary intervention and multiple tests, we couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong. His bloodwork indicated he needed an urgent blood transfusion just to stabilize him for further diagnosis.

With limited resources, we were forced into an impossible situation. The cost of his potential treatments reached $5,000, and even then, there were no guarantees that he would survive the blood transfusion. Though his prognosis was uncertain, Bucky's gentle, loving nature touched everyone around him, even as his health declined.

 

Then came the crushing moment: we had to choose between an immediate and costly blood transfusion with uncertain results or letting him pass peacefully. Without enough funding, we had to make the devastating choice to say goodbye—never knowing if we could have saved him.
