FOUND YOUR PERFECT MATCH?
See if you may be theirs.
To adopt from Paws and Claws you must:
Be 21 years or older
Have some form of identification (ID, drivers license etc)
Verify that you are allowed to have a pet where you live
Make sure all household members are on board
Be ready to spend the time and resources necessary for your pet (vet care, food, training etc)
Spay and neuter all current pets prior to adoption unless there is a medical exception
Live in Illinois, or bordering Indiana/Wisconsin
Paws and Claws welcomes all adopters who meet the above criteria. Our adoption process is centered around conversations and match making while being opening and welcoming to all.
To begin the adoption process please fill out an application. We'll respond as soon as possible if you are ready to adopt within a week. If not, we will be in touch closer to the date that you have listed on your application as the date you are able to bring a new pet home. We receive many applications so please be patient.
After reviewing your application, we'll reach out via phone call to get to know you, review your application in-depth and talk about felines who may be a good match. Please frequently check your email and voicemail inbox after submitting an application.
Meet & Greet/Trial Adoption
It is up to the potential adopter whether they would like to meet a cat/kitten or if they would like to move forward with a trial adoption. A trial adoption is a two week trial period where you get to know an animal in your home and can make sure that kitty is a good long-term fit.
Please keep in mind:
Kittens do best when they have a friend. Paws and Claws adopts out kittens in pairs and solo kittens ONLY to homes with another cat/kitten.
We are not able to hold animals for an extended period of time. Please don't apply until you are ready or close to prepared to bring your new addition home (within a week of the application being submitted).
We prioritize adopters in Illinois, but may accept applicants who are just over the boarder in the following states, WI and IN.
Both references must NOT be related to you.
You MUST put down your current or past veterinarian if you have/had pets.
Be open-minded! We ask that you do not choose cats you are interested in based on looks. Please remember that you will be adopting them because you feel that their personality fits with your home environment. We will not review applications where adopters are applying for an animal because they like their color etc.
One of the things that is very important to us is keeping in touch with our adopters. We want to see photos, hear stories and maybe even receive a holiday card?! Once a P&C animal always a P&C animal. Please keep in touch. We will email/call to check-in periodically the first few months post-adoption. Our fosters love receiving adoption updates and photos and we love hearing from you. It may not be every organization's requirement but it is one of ours.
What will set your application apart…
When filling out our application please be as detailed as possible and answer the question being asked. We receive many applications with missing info (unit number, zip code etc.) and even more that have very short answers.
And last, but not least have you followed the information stated above? We try to be as clear as possible to avoid confusion and be upfront.
