Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return

Some cats are happiest living outdoors, roaming freely through neighborhoods where they feel at home. Or they may have lived outside for so long that trying to bring them indoors would be stressful or cruel. However, when not properly cared for, every unsterilized outdoor cat can contribute to overpopulation, disease, and suffering.

In line with our core values of community, kindness, responsibility, support, and inclusion, Paws and Claws Cat Rescue is committed to including these cats as part of our community, ensuring they receive the compassion, dignity, and care they deserve. For these community cats, Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return (TNVR) offers a humane way to care for them while controlling overpopulation.

To continue to grow what responsibility means to us, Paws and Claws is now offering TNVR appointments for unowned community cats in Cook County.

Community members who wish to TNVR a cat should read the following information and then submit this appointment request form. After you submit the appointment request form, our team will follow up with available appointments. Thank you for helping us help cats in need and advancing our mission to prevent and alleviate the suffering caused by abuse, neglect, and overpopulation.

The fee per cat is $50. Paws and Claws requires a $25 deposit. The remaining $25 due upon arrival. Cats will receive: spay/neuter, ear tip, stomach tattoo, vaccines, microchip, and flea/tick treatment.

We are taking action to prevent negative outcomes, giving cats healthier lives while reducing the strain on local shelters. We are helping to:

  • Protect community cats by preventing unwanted litters and improving overall health

  • Support our friends at Evanston Animal Shelter with their TNVR efforts

  • Reduce shelter intake and lower the risk of euthanasia for cats in our area

  • Empower caregivers with the tools and guidance to care responsibly for outdoor cats

PRE-SURGERY:
  • Trap the cat in a humane cat trap such as a TruCatch trap.

    • Need a trap? Trap rentals are offered at Treehouse Humane Society and through Cats in Action.

    • CATS WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED IN A HUMANE TRAP.

    • Click here to learn more information about trapping.

  • No food after 10pm the night prior to surgery.

    • This is very important and prevents dangerous complications during surgery!

  • Bring the cat to Paws and Claws on your designated appointment day. Drop off is between 8:45am-9:30am.

POST-SURGERY:
  • Pick up your cat at Paws and Claws post-surgery between 4-6pm.

  • House them inside a temperature-controlled room inside the trap overnight.

  • Return them to where you trapped them the following morning.
