We were unaware of Wyatt's unimaginable past until our vet went to amputate his leg.
Four-year-old Wyatt came to us in late June and we noticed right away that he could barely walk on his front leg. His foster took him to get x-rays and the vet believed he had osteosarcoma (bone cancer). The only way to save his life and prevent it from spreading was to amputate his leg from the shoulder down.
He went in for the procedure and when the vet went in, they saw it wasn’t cancer. Wyatt had been shot months prior and it had ravaged his shoulder joint. We had no idea he suffered through this. There was no wound on the outside and his fur had grown back by the time he came into our care.
The vet went ahead with the amputation because the damage was so severe. We sent out a biopsy to check for cancer just in case, and we're waiting for the results to come back.
