Sea Glass Welcomes Four Kittens In Our Treatment Room

Kitten season came early for Paws and Claws. In mid-February, Sea Glass arrived at our rescue from a partner shelter that hadn’t realized she was pregnant. Upon intake, we immediately noticed the little round belly on the petite, one-year-old cat, but we didn’t know just how far along she was.

Just one week after settling in, Sea Glass gave birth to four beautiful girls in our treatment room: Clearwater, Copacabana, Waikiki, and Bondi. The tiny family is currently nursing in foster care, with Sea Glass being a devoted and loving mother.

While we are thankful to offer Sea Glass and her babies a safe, nurturing space to grow, her story shines a light on a troubling issue that we face every day in animal welfare: cat overpopulation.

In shelters without sufficient resources, the heartbreaking reality is that many kittens are euthanized because there simply isn’t enough funding or capacity to care for them. With limited resources and a constant influx of animals, far too many cats never get the opportunity they deserve. This is why spaying and neutering is so essential—it helps prevent the overpopulation crisis and reduces the strain on shelters across the country.

Sea Glass and her babies are an example that, while we can't solve the overpopulation crisis overnight, every individual story makes a difference. By giving them the care and love they deserve, we're taking important steps toward a brighter future for cats in need. Once these kittens are old enough to be spayed, they will no longer contribute to the ongoing crisis, helping to break the cycle.

And we couldn’t do it without the support of our Paw Print Club members. Thanks to their ongoing generosity, we’re able to provide the medical care, resources, and love that Sea Glass and her babies need.
